Experience the best of Norwegian natural and cultural landscapes! The hike through the spectacular Aurland Valley will take your breath away and become a journey you will never forget.
Aurland Valley, often called Norway’s “Grand Canyon,” is a historical main route between east and west. The area is wild and magnificent, rich in plant and animal life, cultural heritage, history, and geology.
The entire valley, from Geiteryggen to Vassbygdi, is about 40 km long. The most popular section, from Østerbø to Vassbygdi, is 20 km and takes 6-8 hours. The trail leads you through valleys and gorges, down steep slopes, surrounded by majestic mountains. Along the way, you pass old farms such as Nesbø, Sinjarheim, and Almen, which bear witness to a bygone era. Particularly worth visiting is the stone pot Vetlahelvete.
Difficulty: The hike is for experienced hikers with good equipment. It follows marked trails, open terrain, and rocky areas.
Location/transportation: The hike starts at Østerbø Fjellstove (about 820 meters above sea level) and ends in Vassbygdi (about 70 meters above sea level). A bus runs from Flåm, or you can park in Vassbygdi and take a bus/taxi to Østerbø.
